Morden Moments
Competition-winning entry to the Morden Moments design competition for Merton Council and the London Festival of Architecture, in collaboration with delivery partners RASKL.
Our proposal creates a new micro-market square, forming a focal point for Morden High Street — a contemporary public space designed to support and enhance the existing, under-supported, needs of this area.
Our proposal introduces two installations. The first creates a robust edge condition to create a sense of enclosure and safety, with accessible seating, planting, and a sculptural marker with lighting to support evening use. At its centre, the second installation wraps a mature tree — a key existing feature — in place of the existing planter walls, to create a social hub under a permanent canopy.
The design provides year-round shelter and a flexible focal point for daily use, informal gathering, and events.
